Analyze the following statements and identify as many applicable components of statement analysis as you can attribute to the deception:
“Got approached by a gentleman asking for money. When I addressed him, I was struck in the rear and knocked to the ground. Struggled with him. There was a shot that went off. Struggled with him, and there was another shot that went off. That was the shot that hit me.”
“On July 4, 2011, at about 4:00 p.m., came home from work and took a shower. Was getting ready to head out to some friends’ barbeque and party. My friends Jerry and Paul were having some people over for the Fourth of July. Sat down for a few minutes to watch television and relax. Had two beers until about 5:30 p.m.
“Put my feet up on the table when the doorbell rang. It was an ex-girlfriend, Sally. She sat down with me for a few minutes. They wanted to tell me about their new boyfriend. I wasn’t so happy about it; I didn’t really want to break up with her. I watched the race and argued some, and she left, at six or so.
“At about 7:00 p.m. drove to my friends’ place. They live in the country and it took me an hour to get there, arrived at eight or so. When we got to the party, there were about ten or twelve people there; they were pretty wasted already, and they were drinking most of the day. Sat down outside and had a few shots and several beers. It was hot, so I went inside, and I watched television to cool off. Drank about two more beers and talked with two girls that were friends of Jerry; they were friends of my ex-girlfriend as well. They stated that my ex had found another boyfriend and they were already talking marriage and children. I watched the car race for a while, by myself, and then went back outside to play horseshoes. I played a few games and had an argument with one of the other guys, and they wanted to fight, so went inside to cool down again.
“At about ten or eleven, one of the people at the party came to me to tell me that my ex, Sally, had been found outside her house, hurt and barely alive. She was taken to the hospital.
“I watched the end of the race, close to midnight, had a few more beers and left. Went directly home.”
